I read your piece, The Weeping Time, and think you might be interested in another important part of American history that has nothing but a plaque to show for commemoration: The Negro Building at the 1895 Cotton States and International Exposition. Outside of the little known exhibit is where Booker T. Washington delivered his famous "Atlanta Compromise," speech. Inside the Negro Building marks the early beginnings of the American civil rights movement.
